Hi everyone, and welcome to stage two of my art exhibit through the years.
6. Wavertree L15
I based this art piece on a photo I took back in January 2014. It was a snowy night; the sky was particularly memorising so I wanted to capture this on canvas and did so in the August of that year. I hadn’t really done any art for a year or two, so it was nice to flex my creative skills again. This is painted in acrylics; I particularly like the contrast of the darkened trees and streetlamps set against the sky.
Liverpool Waterfront.
This is the second waterfront painting I've done, and I have mixed feelings about this one; but I really like how the skyline of Liverpool is instantly recognisable and iconic. This piece was finished in 2016.
8. St Cyrus.
I first came here with my family in 2010 and found it so peaceful. This scene is situated in Montrose, Scotland. My daughter took the photo and asked me to recreate it on canvas which I did so back in 2016. Once again, I have mixed feelings about this piece of art, in hindsight I wish I took the trouble of making it three dimensional.
9.Liver Buildings.
For me, this art piece was troublesome! I felt it started to go horribly wrong, it kept falling off the trestle every time or the trestle would just cave in! I still persevered with it for many weeks. I don't know how many times the sky changed regarding the colours but I finally finished it in 2017.
10. St Patrick's Isle.
I visited the Isle of Man the end of September 2016 and I took some photos of Peel Castle, an ancient Viking fortress which is well worth the visit. It looks spectacular at night, lit up in all its glory. This art piece was completed in 2017. I first sketched the outlines of the castle and then filled it with paint, eventually moving onto the sky. I think with the moon and reflection on the water, plus the lights shining off the walls, makes the piece very atmospheric. I must mention the Moddey Dhoo, the infamous big black dog who haunted Peel Castle. Apparently, his last sighting was in Oliver Cromwell times as where the dog was haunting was sealed off.
Hope you all have enjoyed this second part of my art exhibit throughout the years.
See you next week for the final part.
Best wishes,
Ian
